Laser eye surgery, also known as laser refractive surgery, is a procedure used in ophthalmology to correct vision problems such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism.

During laser eye surgery, a laser is used to reshape the cornea, the clear, round dome at the front of the eye, in order to improve visual acuity. The most common types of laser eye surgery include LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) and PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy).

In LASIK surgery, a thin flap is created in the cornea, then the underlying corneal tissue is reshaped using a laser, and finally the flap is repositioned. In PRK surgery, the outer layer of the cornea is removed before the laser is applied, and then the layer is allowed to regenerate.

These procedures are commonly performed to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses and to improve vision.
