Intraocular Lens (IOL) implantation is a surgical procedure aimed at improving a person's vision by placing a lens inside the eye. This procedure is typically performed during cataract surgery. Cataract occurs when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy. During cataract surgery, the cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial lens. This artificial lens helps restore the person's vision. Intraocular lens implantation can also be performed for refractive purposes outside of cataract surgery. In this case, it can reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses. Intraocular lens implantation can be performed with different types of lenses, such as monofocal, multifocal, or trifocal, allowing the person to see clearly at far, intermediate, and near distances.
