A smear test, also known as a Pap test or Pap smear, is a screening test used for early detection of cervical cancer. This test is performed to detect cellular changes and precancerous conditions in the cervix.

During a smear test, a sample is taken from the cervix and examined in a laboratory. The test can be done while lying on a medical examination table or during a pelvic exam by a gynecologist.

The results of this test are used to identify cellular changes and precancerous conditions in the cervix. Early detection of these conditions can lead to timely treatment and prevent the development of serious illnesses.

Regular smear tests are highly effective in the early detection of cervical cancer, and therefore, it is recommended that women undergo this test regularly.
